Professor Frances Curcio is the recipient of the Faculty/Staff Scholarship

Fran atop Sugar Loaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro (Fran no topo do Pão de Açúcar no Rio de Janeiro)Professor Frances Curcio (SEYS) is the recipient of the Faculty/Staff Scholarship to study Portuguese in Brazil. Dr. Curcio will be spending two weeks in Rio de Janeiro this summer, where she will take intensive Portuguese courses at BridgeBrazil. While she is there, Dr. Curcio will also be making some presentations about Queens College and its mission, and the importance of studying a foreign language and traveling abroad in her own life and work.

Dr. Curcio has previous experience leading mathematics teacher study tours for People to People Ambassador Programs to South Africa, China, Spain, Japan, and eight of the original republics of the former Soviet Union. Her academic specialties and research interests include graph comprehension, reading in mathematics, mathematical problem solving, and international mathematics education. Dr. Curcio’s publications, as author, co-author and editor, include books, chapters, and articles on mathematics education and cross cultural mathematics education.
