The Year of Brazil featured a multiplicity of programs brought to the Queens College community: history, politics, music, art, dance, film, architecture, and more. Read about them in our archived Events calendar. Our students, faculty, and staff also got to visit Brazil, where they strengthened existing relationships with Brazilian universities and learned about the diverse and dynamic culture there.
We thank all contributors to the Year of Brazil programming, as we hand the baton over to the organizers of the Year of South Africa, who will lead our 2014-2015 exploration of this country whose wide cultural influence includes world leaders like Nelson Mandela, literary luminaries like Nadine Gordimer, a popular music tradition with a global audience, and more. South Africa also has a vexed history, that includes the Apartheid era and widely publicized struggles with HIV and AIDS.
